In Captiva, Florida, Xanadu began as a Spanish-influenced home that had suffered extensive damage from Hurricane Ian. While the original architecture featured arched openings, terracotta tiles, and textured stucco, the restoration took a bold new direction — trading traditional Mediterranean details for a transitional, clean-lined aesthetic that speaks to modern coastal living.
The redesign replaced the warm, earth-toned palette with crisp white stucco walls and sleek gray metal roofing, immediately brightening the home's presence and improving durability against the coastal climate. Arched openings were squared into clean 90-degree angles, creating sharper lines and a contemporary rhythm across the façade. Natural wood tones were introduced throughout to add warmth and texture, while expansive 2x4-foot tile flooring flows seamlessly through the interior, reinforcing the home's sense of openness.
A signature element of the new scheme is the selective use of color — bold yet subtle pops of blue strategically placed in furnishings, accent walls, and exterior details. These touches nod to the surrounding Gulf waters without overpowering the home's minimalist framework. The layout was reworked to open sightlines toward the water, with improved cross-ventilation for both comfort and energy efficiency.
